Air Tires or Foam Tires ???
The air and foam tires both do the same thing, carry the same load and they both seem to have about the same life span (they just die for different reasons).  So, which tires should you choose?
Air Tire

The air tire is less expensive.

We put an inner tube in all our air tires which greatly reduces the chance of a flat tire.  But, like a bicycle tire once or twice a year you may have to pump them up.

It has ball bearings with seals on the outside to protect the bearings from the elements.  They are stamped hand truck grade bearings but hold up quite well on the air tires.

The hub has a grease fitting to grease the bearings.

If the hand truck is dragged or shoved sideways the tires can leave a rubber mark on dance and gymnasium floors.

The tires have excellent tread life and look pretty good year after year.

When used on our six wheel Super Bounce Ride Mongo Mover the outer tire must be removed to check or add air to the inner tire.
Foam Tire

The foam tire is more expensive.

Generally considered a premium tire.

It is a solid urethane foam all the way through.

The foam is firm but has some give. They act like an air tire pumped up to 30 psi.

It has two ball bearings with seals on the outside to protect the bearings from the elements.  We use a higher quality machined bearing to better handle the higher shock loads transmitted by the foam tires.

The hub has a grease fitting to grease the bearings.

They are non marking and do not leave skid marks.

Most people who try the foam tires never go back to air tires again.

The foam tires do not have as good a tread life as the rubber, air tires.  Dragging or shoving your Mongo Mover sideways or pulling to drag it to turn with all four wheels on the ground will wear the tread off the foam tires.  Tire tread life is not covered under warranty.  To avoid the problem just pick up or push down on the Mongo Mover’s handle to lift one axle off the ground to turn.

Foam tires are extremely hard on wheel bearings.  It is critical that they be regularly and properly greased.  If not properly greased the bearings may fail surprisingly quickly.  Tips and hints on greasing the wheel bearings can be found here.
